Farhad Anoosh, MD, FRCS, FACS

Dr. Farhad Anoosh is recognized as one of America’s top surgeons. He specializes in minimally invasive surgery. This cutting edge surgery is done with small incisions and minimal pain and scarring. This includes all surgical procedures in the abdomen such as surgery of the stomach, esophagus (reflux), gallbladder, colon, spleen, and hernia. He is also trained in utilizing the da Vinci Robot, the most advanced surgical platform in the world.

Dr.Anoosh specializes in the laparoscopic gastric bypass, the lap band and the sleeve gastrectomy. He was the first surgeon in the area to have performed the laparoscopic gastric bypass and the Robotic Assisted gastric bypass. Prior to his arrival in Stony Brook the operation was only being done in the open fashion with big incisions. He was also the first surgeon in Stony Brook to have performed the lap band.

After graduating from medical school with honors, Dr. Farhad Anoosh completed his general surgical training at the New York Medical College. During his residency he rotated as chief surgical resident at Weill Medical College, Cornell University. He continued his post-graduate studies by completing a minimally invasive bariatric fellowship under the supervision of nationally renown Dr. Anita Courcoulas at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he accepted the academic appointment of clinical instructor of surgery.

Dr. Anoosh has performed clinical research in advanced minimally invasive bariatric surgery including single incision laparoscopic procedures, sleeve gastrectomy, gastric banding, gastric bypass, stomaphyx, and robotics. He has also trained surgical residents and actively practicing surgeons in the most current laparoscopic surgical techniques. He has published a number of peer review articles which reflect his experience with more than 350 gastric bypass and gastric banding operations.

Dr. Anoosh is a recipient of the Consumer Council of America 2008 list of America’s Top Surgeons. In addition he is listed on Marquis Who’s Who in America and the World 2010 edition.

In January of 2011 he joined pioneer bariatric surgeon James A. Sapala at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center to provide the latest in the laparoscopic approach for operative management of patients suffering from clinically severe obesity.

My experience with Dr. Anoosh and his staff was amazing. I learned so much about the surgery itself and the nutritional aspect that I felt more prepared than I did before. The office of Dr. Anoosh and Dr. Sapala, is remarkably respectful, polite, kind hearted. The staff is there to make your time in the office very welcoming. They help you with what ever you need. They encourage you to do as great as you are you doing. I feel this was the best choice for me.

I am a patient of Dr. Anoosh. He will be doing my surgery for the sleeve on June 30, 2015. I been a patient of his since Jan. 2015. He is a GREAT Dr. The staff at his office is wonderful. Since April 27 of 2015, I lost 10lbs. I followed all the instructions on how to eat better and I feel great. This Staff of Dr. Anoosh and Dr. Sepala are the best!!

After having some serious issues with my back and being very overeight, my medical doctor discussed bariatric surgery with me to try and have some pressure taken off of my back. I was referred to Dr. Anoosh by 2 friends and I have been seeing Dr. Anoosh since October. He and his staff have been very informative about the surgery, they all work as a team and have brought me a long way with the proper diet. I am scheduled for the Gastric Sleeve on March 3rd and I have complete confidence that this will be a great success, thanks to him.
